Hello! Hooligan here. First and foremost, everyone is welcome in this thread.

I wanted to set up an LGBTQ safe zone for laid back chat, questions, and LGBTQ rights movement updates from around the world. I'd like to maintain an open and inviting atmosphere here and I also invite questions concerning anything about myself or the LGBTQ movement. I understand questions are not asked to offend, but asked to understand. :)

So, about me: I'm bisexual and ftm transgender, meaning I was born female but I identify as male. I have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, but I have been taking testosterone since November 25, 2014.

That's awesome Hooligan! My cousin is a male to female transgender so i know that can be a difficult transition from talking to her. :)

It certainly isn't easy, no, but good things in life rarely are. ;)

On this day June 26, 2015, same-sex marriages have been legalized in all 50 states across the nation.

What can I say? A few things come to mind, mostly "finally" or "take that" but really, we should thank all the unsung heroes-- those men and women and others who have fought tooth and nail for decades to see this day come, and to those who didn't live to see this historic day.

It's one big step forward, yet we still have a lot of work to do. Still, today is a day for celebration and remembrance, and we will continue to fight for our rights.

Bisexual male here. I'll be here to point out the negative aspects of the LGBTQ rights movement if/when it becomes relevant to this thread.
I mean, I support the movement wholeheartedly and I'll gladly discuss the more positive topics but I tend to see a lot of the more problematic areas/people of the movement

Keep in mind this is not a debate thread and I'd like to keep it a positive, relaxed environment.

I'm a debate addict but I'll do my best to keep things relaxed. Guess I'll just be the guy who promotes the thick skin approach xD

Why not revive something that's designed for the greater good? :cat:

Pansexual and polyamorous cis-male, although I have a feeling I may be bi-gender after listening to someone share their experiences with being bi-gender (there are times I look at my nude body and think "Yeah, I look good for a male" and other times when I'm just absolutely disgusted with all the male bits). I may be demisexual as opposed to pan, but due to a lack of proper counseling, I'm just going to stick with pansexual for now in an effort to be sensitive to those who are confirmed demi. My partner and I recently opened up our monogamous relationship of six years, but I've been studying polyamory for the past year because... Well, there's a lot of love to give in this little heart of mine.

I hope it's okay to share some links to resources. I'm just a huge fan of podcasts like Sex Nerd Sandra and Poly Weekly and The Multiamory Podcast and all of those shows have helped me learn more about my own sexual identity. Sex Nerd Sandra was actually the show that introduced me to the world of polyamory and got me to check out The Ethical Slut (which for all its flaws is still a great book about communication with your partner).

    @SpentGladiator

Links to related podcasts here are fine. Glad to have ya.

Hope you don't mind a question-- What exactly is demisexual? Honestly a lot of these labels tend to confuse me a bit but I really would like to understand what it means. :D

The basket of worms you've just opened, friend :lmao:

And I never mind anything from you, Hooligan  From what I understand, demisexuality is where you need (and that's a "need" with a capital "N") to feel a strong emotional bond with someone before you would even consider being with them in a relationship or sexually. I know that sounds like how a regular relationship works, but this one lady I'm casually dating who is confirmed demi explained it to me this way: "[She] was talking to this female friend of hers, and while she was interested in [her], [she] couldn't feel the same way because they were still getting to know one another. But after 3-4 months of talking regularly, [she] one day wondered 'What would it be like if we held hands?'" So there's like never a real initial attraction, emotional or physical, until one has become somewhat invested in the other person. I'm probably the absolute worst person to explain it, though :asshat: But yeah, some of these categories confuse the absolute hell out of me, but a learning experience is a learning experience. I'm actually going on a date with her again next weekend, which I'm a little excited for since she was the one to ask me out on a date so apparently I'm fun to do things with?

For now I wanted to share the podcast that introduced me to the concept of bi-gender. Maybe someone will find this enlightening!

"Paige's Story" is the segment I was talking about, but the whole episode is really interesting.
