Since I now appear to have extra time on my hands, I decided to finally post a thread containing not only important updates, but also a thread where I can went and rant about things that are pissing me off. As a fair warning there will be political rants. Enter at your own risk. I will avoid using real names whenever possible. The purpose of this thread is for me to let off some steam and avoid drama.

This thread is never about anybody on this site. Not unless one of you manages to completely piss me off and even in that hypothetical situation, I won't mention any names.

First off my job is kinda in limbo at the moment. The company I've been working for is in financial trouble, which honestly doesn't surprise me. Management never communicated with the little people running the show and there were often times when I literally created work for myself because the boss never gave me any other work once I had finished everything that I needed to do. So for the time being I'll have more time for my writing.

The problem is I only have one active partner here. She's amazing, but I'm always looking for more.

One thing that pisses me off about some adult roleplaying sites is that they still treat you like a child. Thankfully this isn't a problem at ANH - the staff are respectful enough, although I think that underage characters should be banned from the site.

Anyway, another site tends to be very lax about age verification, yet are overzealous to the point where I had to appeal a warning because I didn't want to use an underage character for a story. The site doesn't allow overly erotic stories in PMs because they "fear it might turn into cybering", but at the same time dedicate an entire forum for nothing but cybering. Dude, learn the difference between writing erotica and cybering. They are not the same fucking thing. For erotic stories, you have to go into a separate, password protected forum. Why? You're already an 18+ site. Why hide it from us?

I'm glad ANH is more respectful of its members where I see no "cybering" and all we need to do is simply mark a story using the appropriate tags. That is how an 18+ site should be run.

While we're on the subject of roleplaying, I've said before that I really fucking hate the term "roleplaying". "Roleplaying" to me sounds like a sexual activity you'd share with a sexual partner. I prefer the term "collaborative writing". You are essentially creating a story with somebody else, and sharing ideas back and forth. Well, if you partner is good you'll be working out ideas and plots together. I've been unfortunate and had to deal with people who expected me to create the entire story on my own.

Finally, and this is something I've been wanting to get off my chest for a while, why do some people think it's perfectly okay to drop off the face of the planet without notifying their partner? I've had this many times before - I'm in the middle of a great story with a partner and we even have a friendly OOC going back and forth. Then all of a sudden they disappear. Why? I'll completely understand if there's some personal issue you need to deal with. How hard is it to take 30 seconds and say "Hey, I have some personal shit going on. I need to drop the story." Even worse is when the person suddenly drops your story without a word, but then you see them writing with other people on the same site. Learn some fucking manners and have the decency to tell me when you're no longer interested or unable to post. Leaving your partner hanging like that is a dick move and uncalled for.

Or you could be in the middle of planning a story and the person you're planning with suddenly stops talking to you. Or, as this recently happened to me, told me that they're too busy to do anything now and promised to reply once they have the time. So I wait patiently and notice a status update saying they have the time to write again. I send them a friendly message asking if they're still interested. What do they do? Completely ignore me and start writing with other people. I guess it's good that I avoided getting my hopes up with a new story with an ultimately flaky person, but still, why is so fucking hard for people to tell their partners and potential partners they're not interested? We're supposed to be adults here.

Where are all the active people at here?

One thing that's starting to piss me off is people who look down on people who write erotic novels and fiction. They call it trashy or distasteful and they think that they're better or morally superior because they only write "classy" fiction. You're entitled to your opinion, but who the hell died and named you a literature critic? As someone who enjoys writing the occasional erotic story, I don't find erotica to be trashy at all. Everybody has different tastes and I'm not about to insult you if you prefer not to write erotica. It becomes a problem for me when you start acting like you're better than everyone else. You're not better than me or anyone else because you refuse to write erotica. It doesn't make you morally superior or "classy". Get off your high fucking horse and check your superiority complex at the door.

I only have a problem with erotica, and all forms of literature, when it's poorly written and derivative.

I wasn't expecting that many people to agree with me, but it's refreshing to know that others feel the same way on that subject.

Again I must ask, why do some people feel that they can totally ignore you, but can spend all day with everyone else on site? It's rude. If you're not interested in writing with someone, have the decency to tell them. Don't dick around with them by replying once or twice and then leave them hanging. Were you raised without any manners?

I was just declined the chance to write with someone on another site because of my gender. There is a reason why I dislike sharing my gender on writing sites - I would rather avoid discriminatory bullshit like that. Why doesn't matter if the person behind the screen - somebody who you're never going to meet in person - has a penis or a vagina? I totally understand having an age restriction on potential writing partners (I do that myself) as that can run into potential legal issues, but come the fuck on. It's 2016 people. I think it's well past time we stopped caring about what parts people have in their pants.

Warning - political rant incoming. Hit the back button now if you are the easily offended type.

I'm not American, but I do follow American politics closely. The partisanship in that country astounds me. It seems that even the most simple of political issues, turns into a partisan football where the entire conversation is dumbed down to sound bites and partisan mudslinging. We have some of that in Canada, but not to the extent that I see it in America. The double standards alone are enough to make your head spin.

Case in point, the militia takeover of the National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. I've heard these people been called many things, but never what they actually are. These men are terrorists plain and simple, yet the media refuses to call them by that word. Yet if these people were black, Muslim, or even left-wing they wouldn't hesitate to toss around the t-word. Hell, if they were Muslim the police would have stormed the place and killed them by now. Yet because they're white Christian men, they somehow get a free pass.

Not surprisingly many Conservatives are praising them and I've even heard that some of them are joining their movement. That's funny. Conservatives are usually the ones to beat their chest and shout "tough on crime", but are openly praising the actions of criminals. Funny how "tough on crime" never seems to apply to them. Once this situation is over the government should throw the book at them - otherwise your "tough on crime" stance is a bunch of meaningless tripe.

Shit like this is exactly why I hate conservatives.

While we're still on the subject of political bullshit, ever notice how conservatives' first instinct is to attack their opponents rather than debate them?

They always have little names and labels they use like "communist" (a term they seriously don't understand), "lieberal", "libturd", and their new favorite term "SJW". Granted some liberals do the same thing, but not to the extent I've seen conservatives do it - especially online. It's like they intentionally seek out to troll by going to left-wing media outlets to annoy people. Nearly every encounter I've had with conservatives has been negative. I'm always hoping I'll be proved wrong and meet one who wants to have a mature, civilized debate.

It's no wonder Donald Trump is so popular - he's saying all the outrageous, racist, homophobic, and misogynist things people are too afraid to say for themselves.

In the Canadian federal election last year, the Liberal's ads were positive, hopeful, funny, and said exactly what they'd do differently. By contrast, the Conservative's ads were all negative. They spend millions attacking Justin Trudeau by insulting his hair or by repeating "he's not ready" on an infinite loop. Um, how about telling us about your platform? Don't tell me why I shouldn't vote for the other guy - tell me why I should vote for you. It didn't surprise me that the Conservatives ended up losing spectacularly. Now that they're in Opposition, they whine that the Liberals are using their majority government to push through their legislation. Ironic seeing how that's exactly what the Conservatives did when they had their majority for four years.

Whew. Posting in these blogs is definitely therapeutic.

So apparently asking people to come up with their own ideas is enough to scare them away.

On another site I was starting up a story with someone. It was going well enough until I started asking what the main plot of the story would be. The person asked me to do all the creative work and come up with the plot myself. I replied that I wanted to work on the plot together and doing all the plotting on my own wasn't fun for me. I haven't heard from them since then.

You do know that this is supposed to be a collaborative experience, right?

Doing all the work on a story yourself isn't fun in the least. Most partners I've had will contribute, but I've had the misfortune of being stuck with people who contributed nothing and expected me to be the creative one. If I wanted to write by myself, I would be writing a novel. Part of the fun of being on sites like this is the sharing of ideas back and forth with a partner.

Apparently asking someone to be creative is a big no-no.

So why are you even on writing sites if you don't want to be creative and come up with your own ideas?

Donald Trump has praised Kim-Jung-Un for "strong leadership" and for taking out his opposition. Do I need to say anything more than that? This man is dangerous. America, for the love of whatever god you believe in, please do not elect this wannabe dictator.

Warning - another political rant incoming. Easily offended types, you have been warned.

Not a day goes by when I'm reminded how much I can't stand conservatives and theiir self-righteous hypocrisy.

They're always the first to attack and criticize, but always the last to offer any ideas to make a problem go away or the situation better. Conservatives are hypocritical, entitled , self-righteous little assholes who think that the world owes them a living. They love to scream that they're being oppressed especially when same sex marriage is legalized or when a black person is accepted into a college, but ignore the fact that they have been oppressing women, racial minorities, LGBTs, religious minorities, and anyone who thinks differently than them for centuries.

They claim that they're against big government, yet applauded George W Bush when he shit on civil liberties with the Patriot Act and the NSA and they openly support a fascist like Donald Trump. They have no problems with the government trying to control what goes on in the bedrooms of its citizens, what women can do with their reproductive organs, what we can do with our own bodies, and where people can go to the bathroom.

They claim that they're fiscally responsible, but said nothing as Bush added billions to the national debt and spent trillions on another Middle Eastern quagmire or when he bailed out the banks. They didn't object when Stephen Harper spent over a billion on the G20 summit or when he wasted millions on shameless taxpayer funded partisan advertising.

They love to use "religious freedom" as an excuse to deny basic services and human rights to gays, but when Native Americans use that clause to try and stop a mining company from drilling on their sacred lands, they ignore it.

They're so fearful of Muslims and like to scare us about the West becoming "Islamified", yet they have no problems forcing their Christian views on everyone and forcing it into schools. These people would have no problems turning the West into the Christian version of Saudi Arabia. Speaking of which, why are we allies with a nation with such an appalling human rights record?

They hate immigrants and refugees, but conveniently forget that America was founded by immigrants and refugees.

They claim to be defenders of moral and "family values", yet they praise people like three times divorced with child out of wedlock Kim Davis, adulterous child molester Josh Duggar, and the infamous crack smoking mayor Rob Ford.

They say they're "tough on crime" except when it's their own doing the crime.

They whine about opposition parties for "being in bed with unions", but ignore that they're in bed with the big corporations and the Church.

    Hypocrites.

They say they want to have a mature debate, but whenever I see them rant, "debate", or post online comments, it always results in name calling, mudslinging, and a partisan pissing contest.

I have far more respect for liberals and libertarians. I can at least have an intelligent conversation with them 90% of the time.

Well, the company I was working for is now bankrupt and I'm officially unemployed again. Can't say I'm surprised given how poorly managed the company was.

I've been job searching the past month and while I've had a couple of interviews, there's nothing too promising. I blame the shitty Canadian economy and the even shittier Canadian dollar.

Fuck you Stephen Harper for gambling Canada's future on the oil industry. A healthy economy needs to do more than rely on an one trick pony industry. It needs to diversify. I can only hope Trudeau reverses this trend.

The following post is about an incident that happened on another site that I was using prior to before I joined ANH. I decided to leave that site. The problems I had with it were too many to count.

That moment when your writing partner starts accusing you of things you didn't do and become all too snarky about it.

Case in point, one of them said that I was "too controlling" and even went so far as to say that it wasn't an "equal partnership". Well, no it's not an equal partnership when you rely on me to come up with all or the majority of the ideas and offer few or none of your own. Don't come crying to me or insult me when you expect me to be the only creative one or when you want to implement a random idea without us going over it. If we both like an idea we'll use it. If one of us doesn't like it, I wouldn't feel right implementing it into the story knowing that one of us wouldn't enjoy it. There's no need to take it personally.

I've always believed that writing should be an equal partnership. That means we both share in the creative process. Luckily I have a couple good partners here who understand that. It's why I have multiple stories with one of them and why our threads are over 3 pages long and counting. We both share our ideas. We tell each other the ideas we want to see implemented in the story. If we both like them we go ahead with them and if one of us doesn't like them, we forget about it, no hard feelings. Neither partner should feel obligated to automatically add an idea just because their partner came up with it.

If an idea doesn't work for the story or characters it simply doesn't work. There's no reason to make it personal or start getting an attitude problem. I've had to end a few stories because of people who decided they'd rather work against me instead of with me on a story.

This is why I always stress having an OOC with your writing partners and that communication with them is key to a long lasting and enjoyable story.

I have some good news. I'll be starting a new job in February so that means my time here will be more limited. On weekdays I'll just have the evenings to reply and I should have the weekends as well, though I'll always let them know in advance when things get too busy.

I'll tag my most active partners here so they see this. Don't want you guys to start thinking that I'm slacking off with my replies:

Notice to my partners, my new schedule starts tomorrow. That means my replies will be slower on weekdays and I'm limited to evenings and weekends. I'll still reply as often as I can.

    @TheRainWoman , @Tonkan , @Astrea

You three are my most active partners so I hope you don't mind me tagging you here.

Whenever I see the candidates debate in the 2016 American election, the more disturbed and worried I get for the future of America. Although I'm Canadian, America is our closest ally and trading partner. What happens there will have an impact on what happens here. I figured I'd post my thoughts on the remaining candidates.

    Democrat Candidates

Hillary Clinton - She's represents the establishment. I honestly have no idea what to make of her, but even my liberal friends tell me she's corrupt and untrustworthy. Would be the first female President and still, sadly, better than any of the nutbars that the GOP have to offer.

Bernie Sanders - A socialist with an economic policy that amounts to "let's give everyone free stuff", which would probably have a negative impact on the economy. Admittedly he is the best candidate for civil rights out of all of them and has the track record to prove it. Would be the first Jewish President.

    Republican Candidates

Ted Cruz - The Canadian with the world's most punchable face outside of Justin Bieber. A career politician and and opportunist who would sell out his own mother if it meant gaining a couple points in the polls. Claims to support so-called "small government", yet wants the government to police the bedrooms and bodies of its citizens.

Donald Trump - What can I say about this guy that everyone hasn't already said? He's a bigoted, racist, homophobic, misogynist fucktard who will say anything, regardless of how truthful or offensive it is, and then acts like a spoiled child when he's called out on it. With friends like Sarah Palin, does he really need enemies? Would be the first Neo-Nazi President.

Marco Rubio - Like with Ted Cruz, he's another opportunist who will pander to anyone for votes. He's already pandering to Evangelicals and would set civil rights back decades. He did have some good ideas for immigration reform, but as expected, he's already gone back on that.

Ben Carson - A raving social conservative. There's nothing much else to say about this guy.

Rand Paul - He was the only good candidate the GOP had to offer. He was the only one who wasn't saying the same old same old and wanted to end the wasteful "War on Drugs". Shame he's suspended his campaign.

Jeb! Bush - Remember when we all that that Jeb! was going to be the nominee? Like America needs another Bush in the White House. Sadly, he'd probably be the least disastrous out of all the GOP candidates, but now Jeb! is fading into obscurity. Perhaps if he stopped jerking off to Supergirl and started coming up with some new ideas, people would pay attention to Jeb! again.

Carly Fiorina - Another shameless social conservative who went so far to endanger schoolchildren for one of her campaign stops. Could potentially become the first female President, but seeing how there's a bunch of other raving social conservatives in the mix, she'll eventually get drowned out and fade back into obscurity.

John Kasich - He's also one of the better ones, but he has no chance. He'll probably suspend his campaign before Super Tuesday.

Chris Christie - The bully Governor from New Jersey who doesn't even seem to have much appeal in his home state. Doesn't have much of a chance either. While I don't like his behavior, I have to at least give him credit for probably being the least partisan of the bunch.

Jon Gilmore - Who is he and why should I care? He'll be gone after New Hampshire.

Looking over at these candidates again, America's future isn't looking too bright.

Fuck Valentine's Day. No seriously, fuck it up its ass. It is by far the most shallow and meaningless holiday ever invented. I want to punch whoever it was who came up with the idea.

I wasn't sure if I should post this in the suggestions forum or here, but I figured that it's worth a good rant at least.

My most active partner has just left the site because of a lack of etiquette and manners and honestly I can't really say I blame her. While we got along great, I do have to say that there is a general lack of etiquette, manners, and basic courtesy on this site. I have nothing against the staff. They do the best they can and in fact this problem is far worse on other sites I've been to.

Let me start with the four biggest problems I see here.

No Response Is Not A Fucking Response

This is something I've dealt with since day one. People who either completely ignore you when you send them a message or if you're lucky enough to start a conversation with them, they'll end up stop talking to you after a few posts in. There are some people who will actually tell you if they're not interested in an one x one, but more often then not, I end up with people who simply who tell me jack shit and end up leaving me hanging.

    Ditching

Similar to the above point, but this is usually more reserved when you've started up a story with someone and they simply disappear on you without saying a word. How hard is it to take thirty seconds to say "Sorry, something came up and I don't have the time for this anymore" or "Sorry, I've lost interest in this story. Good luck on your search." I've had to ask the mods to move at least five threads because the person left without saying a word. Some people have been good at giving warnings when they can't post, but unfortunately they're not the majority.

Even worse is when you get the feeling that people are deliberately ignoring you to spend all day posting with someone else, which brings me to my next point.

    Cliques

This is what happens when you get a specific group of people on the site who always write with each other, but refuse to write with anyone else. I have even seen people explicitly say that they will only write with specific people. It is even worse when you start a story with someone, but you're gradually ignored in favor of someone else. This recently happened to me and the person didn't even have the courtesy to let me know that they weren't interested in our story. This was quite evident in the shoutbox where I noticed specific groups of people banding together. We're adults, not fucking highschoolers. Act like it.

    General Rudeness and Bad Attitudes

This was also something I noticed, especially in the shoutbox. Between people getting overly pissy and giving off a really negative vibe, to making fun of search threads and people's kinks, to heated arguments getting started over the most trivial of things, I can't say I blame the mods in taking the shoutbox off the front page. Again I have to say we need to act like adults. We don't need these added stresses and drama in our lives when we all have our own shit to deal with.

The point I'm trying to make is that ANH is supposed to be a fun and friendly community of adult writers. When we have people leaving the site because of other people's shitty attitudes and rudeness, it's clear to me that something has to be done and this needs to be taken seriously.

Work was cancelled today because of shitty weather. Why the fuck are we having an icestorm and two feet of snow in the first week of spring?

Today was supposed to be my last week of work as well. That means I'm now out of a job again, but at least my boss has several connections that can get in touch with me. Hopefully that means that by this time next month at the latest I'll be able to find a new job.

There really should be a rule against deliberately ignoring request messages (and ditching). Happened again yesterday and I'm getting sick of it.

Sigh. Maybe I should just give up on dating. Or at the very least online dating. I swear if you want to see the shallowest and most superficial people around, go to an online dating site. Men and women on there are both guilty of it, though honestly in my experience I've found that it's more prevalent among women. People who only care about how someone looks will never find true love or happiness. What are they going to do when their looks start to fade? Shallow people piss me off.

There's also the fact that there's hardly anyone decent in my area. Most of the people I feel would be a good match either live too far away, or they're into drugs and smoking, both of which I want nothing to do with.

Sometimes just the slightest things will piss people off the wrong way. Just this weekend, I thought things were going well with someone I had been talking to online. We were at the point where we were willing to meet. Since I'm overly cautious and want to be on the safe side, I suggested that we bring our IDs so we could confirm our ages and identities to be safe. The person freaked out on me for "questioning her age" and that was the end of that.

I think taking a break from online dating is a good thing for me right now - I keep setting myself up for disappointment.

Job searching is a lot like collaborative writing. I can handle the rejection - it's the constant waiting and lack of responses that I don't like.
